From a caravan on the headland to the voice of Port Stephens
From our humble beginnings broadcasting from a caravan, we have grown to become the area's leading local radio station and our region's only community radio station.
During the day we play a selection of hits and classics from the 60s, 70s and 80s right through to today's best songs. And what would community radio be without the diverse selection of specialist music programs we broadcast of an evening? From blues to jazz to rock — we'll take you there.
Our studios are based in Salamander Bay and we're on-air 24/7 with a strong signal extending across all of Port Stephens; from Karuah and Hawks Nest in the north, across to Maitland in the west and to Lake Macquarie in the south. We also stream our broadcast live 24/7 from our website, so you can take PSFM with you, wherever you go in the world.
At PSFM we love our community and aim to keep you up to date with local information, news, weather and what's on in the greater Port Stephens area. If you have an upcoming event you'd like people to know about, list it here.
We are a not-for-profit organisation, run by a team of over thirty dedicated volunteers and overseen by our experienced Committee of Management. Our volunteers are the life of this station and do everything from presenting programs to the all-important administration tasks. If you'd like to get involved, start here.

Our history
Three decades on the air

1993
100.9 Port Stephens FM's first test transmission was broadcast on 1 April from the peak of Wanda Head, Salamander Bay — 30 watts on 95.3FM from our mobile studio, the caravan. By the end of the year we were transmitting 200 watts from a studio in Stockton Street, Nelson Bay, boosted by the main transmitter at Gan Gan Hill Lookout, under a 90-day licence allowing seven days of broadcast each month.

1998
In February we were granted a 5-month 24-hour licence, and since July 1998 we have operated on a full-time licence. Those early years brought local employment services, interviews with State and Federal Members of Parliament, Port Stephens Council news, emergency service announcements, Street Beat interviews with the local chief inspector, and weather from Coastal Patrol (now Marine Rescue).

1999
PSFM secured a new directional aerial on our tower, allowing even greater transmitting strength to the west.

2000
July saw the relocation of our studios from Nelson Bay to the Tomaree Community Centre in Salamander Bay, where we operate today.
